Privacy

Last updated: 30 April 2026

This is the privacy policy for NthEffect — a research and analysis tool for tracking cascading effects of major geopolitical and market events. It tells you what we collect, why, and what your rights are. It's deliberately short. If anything's unclear, email us: privacy@nth-effect.com.

WHO WE ARE

NthEffect is operated by Mechanise Ltd (company number 09055114), registered in England. The person responsible for data protection here is Greg Machray.

WHAT WE COLLECT

There are three situations where we collect information about you:

If you join the waitlist: your email address.

If you create an account: your email address, the sign-in method you chose (a magic-link emailed to that address, or your Google account), and any preferences you set inside the product. We don't store passwords because we don't have any — sign-in is passwordless.

If you visit the site: standard analytics data via Google Analytics — pages viewed, approximate location (country/region, never street address), device type, browser, and how you found us. This is anonymised and aggregated. We don't use it to identify you personally.

We don't collect anything else. No third-party trackers, no advertising pixels, no fingerprinting.

WHY WE COLLECT IT

Waitlist email: so we can tell you when the product launches and occasionally share product updates. That's it.

Account data: so we can give you access to the service and remember your preferences.

Analytics: so we can understand which content people find useful and where to improve. We look at trends, not individuals.

WHO WE SHARE IT WITH

We use a small number of trusted services to run NthEffect. Each only sees the data it needs to do its job:

  • Resend — sends our emails (waitlist, sign-in links, digest)
  • Google Analytics — anonymised site usage data, only if you've accepted analytics cookies
  • Google sign-in — only if you choose “Continue with Google” to sign in. Google receives the request you made, your email address, and a verification confirmation. We receive your email and a stable identifier from them.
  • Vercel — hosts the website and the API
  • Neon — hosts the database that holds account information (a Vercel sub-processor)

We don't sell your data. We never have, and we never will. If that ever changes — it won't — we'd tell you first and ask permission.

We also use Anthropic's AI to generate the analysis content you see on the site, but this processes market and news data, not anything about you.

WHERE YOUR DATA LIVES

Some of the services above (Google, Vercel, Anthropic) are based in the US and may process data there. They're all bound by appropriate UK/EU data transfer safeguards. If you'd like more detail on any specific transfer, email us.

HOW LONG WE KEEP IT

Waitlist email: until you unsubscribe. One-click unsubscribe link in every email.

Account data: while your account is active, plus 90 days after you delete it (so we have time to action the deletion properly and you can recover it if you change your mind).

Analytics data: 14 months, then deleted automatically by Google.

YOUR RIGHTS

You have the right to:

  • See what data we hold about you
  • Correct anything that's wrong
  • Delete your data
  • Take it elsewhere (export it in a portable format)
  • Object to how we use it
  • Withdraw consent for anything you've previously agreed to

To do any of these, email privacy@nth-effect.com. We'll respond within 30 days. There's no charge.

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the UK's Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

COOKIES

We use a small number of cookies. We're being specific because handwave language (“we use cookies to improve your experience”) doesn't tell you anything useful.

One cookie is essential — it logs you in and keeps you logged in. Without it, the site doesn't work. This runs whether or not you consent, because consent isn't legally required for cookies that are essential to delivering the service you asked for.

Two cookies are for analytics — these are set by Google Analytics so we can see anonymised, aggregated trends in how the site gets used. These only run if you say yes via the cookie banner when you first visit. You can change your mind any time by clicking “Cookie settings” in the footer.

We also use a few small bits of browser storage to remember UI preferences (e.g. whether you've expanded a panel). These don't track you and don't leave your browser.

Full details: /cookies.

CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

If we change anything material, we'll update the “last updated” date at the top and — if the change affects how we use your data — email anyone with an account or on the waitlist before it takes effect.
